other Lower Sindh

The Lower Sindh is effected by the coastline and is damper, humid, SW winds in summer and NE winds in winter and generally the climate is maritime with rainfall little less than the Middle Sindh. The maximum temperature reaches 95-100 Degrees F. In the Kirthar range at 6,000 ft and higher on the Gorakhnath and other peaks in Dadu district, temperatures near freezing have been recorded and brief snow fall is received in winters.

Practices: Lower Sindh has a damper and humid maritime climate affected by the south-western winds in summer and north-eastern winds in winter and with lower rainfall than central Sindh.

plains Plains of Balochistan

These are the areas where there is proper irrigation systems.

Practices: In irrigated areas of the province, trees are grown simultaneously with agricultural crops and contribute substantially towards household income through sale of timber and firewood. In addition to these major products, forest flora are traditionally used for number of other minor products including agricultural implements, medicines, and different kinds of fruits and nuts.

This covers the Salt Range and the Potwar Plateau. The climate of this zone is semi-arid with hot summers.

Practices: This covers the Salt Range and the Potwar Plateau. In the North the mean monthly rainfall is 200 mm in summer and 35 to 50 mm in winter. The climate in the Southern part is semi-arid and hot. The mean monthly rainfall is 85 mm in summer and 30 to 45 mm in winter. The main crops are wheat, millet, oilseed and pulses.

plains Southern irrigated Plain

The lower indus plain covers the area of southern irrigated plain. Soil is fertile and agriculture is strong.

Practices: Southern Irrigated Plain, the Lower Indus Plain. The climate is arid and subtropical. The mean monthly summer rainfall is 18 mm in the north and 45 to 55 mm in the south. The soils are silty and sandy loam but the upper areas of the flood plain are calcareous loamy and clayey. Cotton, wheat and sugar cane are grown on the left bank of the Indus and rice, wheat and gram on the right bank.

hill mountain Upland Balochistan

Highland Balochistan is located in the north central part of the province. It has a continental semi-arid climate with hot summers and cold winters. The most limiting factor for crop production in rain-fed areas of the highlands is the low rainfall and its skewed distribution both in terms of time and space. Annual rainfall ranges from 175 to 200 mm in the southern districts of Khuzdar, Mastung and Kalat

Practices: Crop production in non-irrigated areas is totally dependent on rainfall while the main source of irrigation water in the valley floor is tube-wells, karezes and mountains springs. Fruit orchards and vegetables are the major cash crops growing of irrigated lands. Vegetables not only provide protein, vitamins, carbohydrates and roughages to human diet as a nutrition source but are also important source of farm income.
