Just east of R. Nile & north of L.Victoria, rainfall range 1,000 - 1350 mm; 1,215 - 1,320 M, flat and swampy in places, soils poor to moderate

Practices: Mostly rainfed crop cultivation of cereals, oil seeds and pulses. Paddy rice grown in drained swamps

Eastern, covering the ranges of Mt Elgon with rainfall over 1400 mm, altitude between 1,300 - 3, 600 M, with mostly rich volcanic soils

Practices: Rain fed mixed farming involving mostly stall fed cattle, small ruminants, vegetable production, cereals such as barley and wheat in Kapchorwa, and Arabica coffee.

Eastern, range of rainfall from 800 - 1500 mm, altitude from 1,200 - 1,340 M, generally flat with undulating hills, moderate to good soils

Practices: Rainfed crop agriculture, consisting of cereals, oil crops & pulses with moderate livestock rearing. Paddy rice grown in drained swamps

North eastern, majorly bordering Kenya, semi arid, average rainfall of 745 mm, altitude at 350 - 1,520 M, soils moderate to poor

Practices: Mostly nomadic pastoralism, limited rain fed crop production, mainly sorghum crop cultivation

North eastern, mostly bordering Acholi, Teso, Kapchorwa & Lango sub regions, more reliable rainfall received, average rainfall of 1,100 mm, altitude at 970 - 1,420 M, soils moderately good

Practices: Limited livestock rearing, crop cultivation predominant, rainfed, consisting of sorghum, millet, short maturity maize, sweet potatoes, some beans, groundnuts and pigeon peas production

In the west, areas around L.Albert to the east and south, variable rainfall from 800 - 1,400 mm, altitude ranges from 620 - 1,585 M, generally flat with undulating hills. Soils are good to moderate

Practices: Rainfed mixed farming of maize, pulses, root crops, coffee and livestock rearing

Covering the central area in the county around L.Victoria. Average rainfall of 1,200-1,450 mm, altitude ranges from 1,000-1,800 M, hilly and flat areas, some with wetlands and forest. Soils good to moderate

Practices: Diversified cropping of bananas,robusta coffee, vegetables, maize and moderate dairy farming. Mostly rain fed

Northern, generally flat with isolated hills, average rainfall of 1200 mm, altitude from 975 - 1,520 M, fairly heavy fertile soils

Practices: Rain fed crop cultivation, consisting of sorghum, millet, cassava, sesame and pulses. Moderate rearing of cattle and small ruminants

South west; mountanious areas of Mt. Muhavura. Rainfall over 1400 mm, altitude of 1,300 - 3,960 M with mostly volcanic rich soils

Practices: Rain fed mixed farming involving mostly stall fed cattle, small ruminants, vegetable production, root crops such as Irish potatoes

North western, generally flat with undulating hills, average rainfall range of 1340 - 1370 mm, altitude from 350 - 1,340 M, moderate to goodsoils

Practices: Rain fed crop cultivation, consisting of sorghum, millet, sesame, cassava and pulses. Moderate rearing of cattle and small ruminants

Mid western Uganda, average rainfall of 915 - 1020 mm, altitude ranges from 600 - 1,524 M, rolling hills with some flat areas, soils are moderate to poor

Practices: Cattle rearing is predominant mixed in places with banana production
