Agro-ecological zones

plains Zone 1

In this zone, the land from is plain with a general altitude ranging from 1050m -1400.The soils are predominantly Haplic Arenosols (40%). Very low relative relief <10m

Practices: Crop and livestock at subsistence level, there are also som GRN irrigation projects.

dry arid Zone 11

This zone is predominantly a desert environment which is characterised by hot daily temperature and very cold night temperatures.

Practices: This zone lies predominantly in the namib desert. Small stock rearing predominates. There are also big irrigation schemes which crop crops under irrigation. Dates; grapes and vegetables are cultivated under those projects.

Practices: Mixed farming of livestock and crops. Subsistence and commercial farming is being practiced

This zone is a mixture of low palin and mountainous area

Practices: This zone is a mixture of commercial and communal farming. The famous maize triangle is situated in this zone. Cultivation of crops and animal rearing are the main agricultural practices.

Practices: Mixture of commercial and communal farming practices. Both livestock and crops are reared.
