Use the stage cards as a planning checklist, then read country notes for local fertilizer language (rates are not prescriptions).
Apply basal NPK according to local recommendations; incorporate residues or manure where available.
Place starter phosphate near the seed row when soils are cold or low in P.
Top-dress nitrogen in one or two splits if the crop looks N-hungry; avoid late N that delays maturity.
Only apply late N when grain protein or yield response is expected; follow extension rates.
