Work in compost or well-rotted manure; add a balanced basal dressing if soil tests low in P/K.
Band a light starter fertilizer near the row; avoid burning young roots with high-salt products.
Side-dress with nitrogen for leafy growth if leaves pale; water in thoroughly.
Shift toward potassium and steady moisture for fruiting vegetables (tomato, pepper, cucurbits).

Rainfed: In normal cases one bag of DAP and one bag of urea per acre should be applied. Latest research has shown that the use of Pottash allows crop to fight against drought and diseases. So one bag of pottash should be applied per acre. In rainfed areas all the fertilizers should be used at the time of preparing field for planting.
